Afya na Mazingira Study Advances to Next Phase of Data Collection – June 2026
The Afya na Mazingira Study continues to generate important evidence on the relationship between climate change and HIV prevention outcomes among vulnerable men in Kenya.
Following the successful completion of two survey rounds involving hundreds of participants, the study has now progressed to the qualitative phase.
To date, sixteen in-depth interviews have been completed, providing valuable insights into participants' lived experiences and the ways environmental and structural factors influence health outcomes.
The study is being implemented by HERA in partnership with the University of Toronto and Health Options for Young Men on HIV/AIDS/STIs (HOYMAS).
Phase Three survey activities are scheduled to begin in July 2026 following the completion of the ongoing qualitative interviews.
The findings are expected to contribute to evidence-informed interventions that address both climate-related vulnerabilities and HIV prevention challenges. The Afya na Mazingira Study continues to generate important evidence on the relationship between climate change and HIV prevention outcomes among vulnerable men in Kenya.
