Ugunja Health Pillar

The Ugunja Health Pillar is a multi-sectoral community health and development initiative launched in 2019 to address priority health and social challenges affecting communities in Ugunja Sub-County, Siaya County. The initiative brings together government departments, health facilities, educational institutions, faith-based organizations, local administration, community leaders, youth groups, and development partners to collaboratively identify challenges and implement sustainable solutions.

The Health Pillar promotes local ownership, accountability, and community participation while strengthening systems that support improved health and social outcomes.

  • Improve maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health outcomes.
  • Promote health-seeking behavior and utilization of essential health services.
  • Strengthen community leadership and accountability in health and development.

Maternal, Newborn and Child Health

Supporting interventions that improve access to quality maternal and child health services, encourage facility-based care, and promote positive health outcomes for mothers and children.

Adolescent and Youth Health

Addressing issues affecting young people, including sexual and reproductive health, teenage pregnancy prevention, life skills development, and youth empowerment.

Health Systems Strengthening

Supporting health facilities, healthcare workers, and community health structures through capacity strengthening, advocacy, and improved coordination.

Community Engagement and Advocacy

Mobilizing local leadership, religious institutions, schools, and community groups to address emerging health and social challenges through collective action.

Since its establishment, the Ugunja Health Pillar has:
