Huduma Mtaani is a community-centered HIV prevention and health systems strengthening project implemented by Help REACH Africa (HERA) in partnership with Health Options for Young Men on HIV/AIDS/STIs (HOYMAS) and supported by the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF).
The project aims to improve access to inclusive, respectful, and stigma-free HIV services for key populations in Nairobi and Kajiado Counties through healthcare provider training, mentorship, community engagement, and strengthened referral systems.

The project combines healthcare provider training, mentorship, supportive supervision, stakeholder engagement, and community-centered approaches to strengthen delivery of HIV prevention and care services for key populations.
Huduma Mtaani works closely with county governments, healthcare facilities, and community stakeholders to strengthen inclusive healthcare systems and improve service delivery experiences for vulnerable populations.
Healing Trauma, Restoring Hope Through Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
In 2025, Help REACH Africa (HERA), in partnership with Yale University and the Elton John AIDS Foundation, introduced Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) in Kenya for the first time through a groundbreaking training conducted in Nairobi.
The training brought together healthcare providers from public health facilities and community-based organizations supporting vulnerable populations, equipping them with practical skills to support individuals experiencing trauma, anxiety, grief, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
For many participants, the experience was transformative. Healthcare providers described witnessing immediate emotional healing and renewed hope among clients and trainees during ART practice sessions.
One practitioner shared how a client struggling with depression and low self-esteem experienced positive emotional change after only one ART session and later encouraged others in the community to seek support through the approach.
The introduction of ART strengthened healthcare provider capacity while contributing to more responsive and trauma-informed approaches to mental health and psychosocial support for vulnerable populations in Kenya.

Dissemination Stage
The project is currently at the dissemination stage, with continued engagement of stakeholders, documentation of lessons learned, and sharing of implementation experiences and outcomes to support future programming and inclusive HIV service delivery approaches.
